🏆 Choosing a format

Your tournament format

On the Indeling (draw) tab you decide how the matches are structured.

Available formats

Per category you can choose from:

• Group phase only — teams are divided into pools, everyone plays everyone.
• Group phase and knockout phase — after the pools follows a knockout phase with the best teams.
• Group stage and placement matches — after the pools, every pool position plays the same position from the other pools: the winners play the final, the runners-up for 3rd–4th, and so on. Everyone keeps playing and every team gets a final place.
• Knockout phase only — direct elimination (cup format).
• Ladder — an ongoing challenge-based competition, without a fixed schedule.

Building your own

You can also build your own structure by combining pools, brackets and free matches. Handy for tournaments with a special setup.

Creating pools

1. Choose a format for the category.
2. Click Add pool to create a new pool.
3. Drag teams to the right pool or use automatic assignment.

Tip: with automatic assignment, teams are spread across the pools as evenly as possible.

Frequently asked questions

Which format should I choose for my tournament?

If you want everyone to play the same amount, choose Group stage only or Group stage and placement matches. If you are working towards a single winner, choose Group stage and knockout stage (groups first, then the best teams) or Knockout stage only for a pure cup format. A Ladder is a continuous challenge-based competition with no fixed schedule.

How do I make sure no team goes home after the groups?

Choose Group stage and placement matches. Every group position then plays the same position from the other groups: the winners play the final, the runners-up play for places 3–4, and so on. Everyone keeps playing and every team ends up with a final ranking — the usual choice for youth and club tournaments.

Can I divide the teams over the groups myself?

Yes. Click Add group and drag the teams into the right group. If you would rather not do it by hand, use Automatic draw: the teams are then spread as evenly as possible over the groups.

Can I still change the format?

Yes. On the Layout tab click ↺ Other format: the structure of that category is cleared and you pick a format again. A warning first states exactly what disappears — the stages, the matches and their results, and for a ladder the ranking and the challenges as well. Your teams and their details stay, so after clearing you simply pick another format and they are divided up again. The other categories are left untouched.

I chose Ladder but I want groups after all — is that still possible?

Yes. Go to Layout, pick the right category at the top and click ↺ Other format. Confirm the warning: the format cards come back and you choose Group stage only, for example. Do note that the whole ladder goes — the ranking, the open challenges and the played matches of that category. The participants themselves stay registered.
