Using categories (divisions)

Categories (also called divisions or levels) let you group teams by age, gender, level or any other criterion.

Creating a category

1. In your tournament, go to the Instellingen (settings) tab.
2. Click Categorie toevoegen (add category).
3. Give it a clear name (e.g. Series A, U12, Men).
4. Click Save.

A colour per category

Each category automatically gets its own colour. Click a colour swatch in the list of levels to pick a colour yourself. That colour shows up as a coloured dot everywhere categories are mixed together: in the schedule, in the results and in the standings. Publicly too: on the live page, on the TV screen and in the app, the dot and the category name accompany every pool and every match, so identically named pools do not get mixed up.

Keeping a category private

Not every category has to be public. On the Presentatie (presentation) tab you will find the card Which categories are public?: there you choose per category whether it may appear on the live page and on the presentation screen. Switch a category off and it disappears from those pages entirely — its matches, standings, bracket, teams and statistics. Handy for a recreational series or a youth category you would rather keep out of sight. In your dashboard, in the app and in the PDFs everything stays visible, and the card only appears once you have more than one category.

Assigning teams to a category

1. Go to Deelnemers (participants).
2. Every team has a category selector — pick the right category.
3. Each category gets its own draw, pools, schedule and standings.

Tip: create your categories before adding teams, so you can immediately pick the right category when adding them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a category and a group?

A category groups teams that play independently of each other — for example U12, Men or Series A. Every category gets its own draw, groups, schedule and standings. A group is a set within such a category: the teams that play each other.

Can I pick a colour per category myself?

Yes. Every category is given a colour automatically, but in the list of levels you click the colour swatch to choose your own. That coloured dot appears everywhere categories are mixed: in the schedule, in the results, in the standings, on the live page, on the TV screen and in the app.

Should I create my categories before adding teams?

That is the most convenient order. If the categories already exist, you pick the right one for each team straight away. If you add them later, you have to adjust the category team by team on the Participants page.

Can I hide one category from the public?

Yes. On the Presentatie tab, the card Which categories are public? lets you switch a category off for the live page, for the presentation screen, or for both. Everything about that category then drops off those pages: matches, standings, bracket, teams and statistics. In your dashboard and in the app you keep working with it as usual.
